Recently, I've been creating Slackware Packages using CheckInstall as a build tool. I've had some success although I've also had some setbacks with some packages, so I'm still learning. What I wanted to do was submit my working packages to http://www.linuxpackages.net as my contribution to the Open Source movement. Imagine my surprise when that site rejected my submission (although I'd read the requirements and instructions on creating a 'proper' Slackpack).
Since the internet is all-powerful, I thought that I'd create a WebRing for those who want to create Slackware packages without the red tape. Yes, I understand the need for standards and organization when producing packages that may end up on many people's systems, and there will be some standardization applied here also, once this site is up to speed. I just disliked the way http://www.linuxpackages.net just disregarded my packages without any feedback as to why (like, what problems did I need to correct to make it meet their standardss).
Stay tuned for more information on Slackpack WebRing package standards. I'll hopefully use the forum as a news medium...its easier than coding in HTML. :o)
Another good thing about pooling resources is that we can beta-test each other's packages. In fact, test mine and let me know if there are any install problems. If there's a bug within the software though, email the actual software creator. :o)
For now, my Slackpacks are located at the below links section. When I have news to pass around, I'll try to add a summary of what news is going on within this WebRing and site in the links section below. You'll be able to get beefier information in the forums.
