An Exercise in Webmastering

This domain and site was established on 17 July 2001.

I've been meaning to explain why I go by WIGGLIT. People usually ask, "What's a Wigglit?" Here's the story.

Many people have asked me what it means. Well, it means exactly how it sounds. Repeat after me: "WIGGLE IT." The reason it's spelled the way it is, is because, in North Carolina, license plates have a maximum of eight letters. I could have asked for WIGGLEIT but it would have looked strange on the tag.

This nickname is as much a web alias as a real live one. It became a nickname for me about 10 years ago.

After my Republic of Korea tour and during my rocky marriage, I decided to splurge some of my hard earned cash on a sports car. I couldn't afford a new one so I bought a used one instead. I bought a 1986.5 Pontiac Fiero GT. I fell in love with this car and it expressed my life feelings very much at the time. I've already mentioned that I had marriage problems. We were separated and pending divorce. I was essentially free to date again and I wanted a catch phrase as a personalized license plate. I picked WIGGLIT. This usually drew immediate attention to me from the ladies.

This nickname is also a song, "Wiggle It," by the group Two in a Room. This song was popular during the time period I got the license plates.

I'd found another reason that WIGGLIT was a good catch phrase. My car was a mid -engined rear wheel drive car, with a high percentage of its weight biased toward the rear of the car. While the engine only put out around 140 horsepower, it was exceptionally easy to do stunts with this car. I've had the car at 120+ mph, with still a bit of throttle left. I've weaved in and out of traffic with surgical precision. And, if I did a high RPM dump of the the clutch at a traffic light, the rear end could be enticed to wiggle left to right in a controllable manner. This last trick I did alot and the name has been with me ever since.

When I traded my Fiero (dumb move), I opted for an 89 Ford Mustang GT, which has considerably more horsepower and torque than the Fiero, 225hp and 300lb/ft of torque to be exact. It had an automatic tranny and was convertible and while it wasn't as easy to get the backend sideways, the name seemed appropriate.
