Zaurus SL5X00 and A300 WebRing Home Page

Welcome to the Zaurus WebRing home page, a community of Zaurus SL5500, SL5000, and A300 users.

The particular Zauri in question are recent additions to the PDA world and are bonified Linux-operated devices. The SL5X00 uses the StrongARM 206MHz CPU while the A300 uses the XScale PXA210 CPU. The 5500 unit and A300 have 64MB of RAM, while the 5000 uses only 32MB, as it's a developer unit. The A300 is currently marketed only to Japan and is aimed toward the corporate arena.

The Zauris' direct competitors are PDAs that are PPC-derived: higher echelon Compaq/HP Ipaqs, Toshibas, and Jornadas.

This WebRing is aimed toward the sharing and pooling together of resources and experiences with the above-mentioned Zauri. Prior to the webring, information was, and still is, scattered throughout the World Wide Web. There are numerous Zaurus forums and pages, but there lacked a serious organization of resources. Gathering these resources in a singly centralized location is a goal of this WebRing. The Achilles Heel of the Open Source community is a lack of centralization and unity (this is the WebRing Master's sole opinion, of course).

The Zaurus community can only benefit from the stockpiling and organization of Zaurus-specific information, but users also have to be open-minded. The WebRing Master has dedicated time and resources into establishing and maintaining the Zaurus WebRing. Please support the effort by joining this webring. It takes minimal effort, though you do have to register with WebRing to join this specific WebRing. Please do not be put-off or inimidated by the registering process. It's very easy to join, once you've registered. Once you've registered, all that is required is to add HTML code to your own Zaurus pages. Once that is done, all you have to do is request to join at the Zaurus WebRing. Adding the code is the only requirement and the WebRing Master will exclude applicants that are adding forums and pages that are acting in an official capacity (ie, Sharp, ZaurusZone) so those applicants won't have to add the required HTML code to those pages.

So, if you are a new member, we all welcome you. If you aren't a member, please give your experiences and opinions to this WebRing by joining Zaurus WebRing!

Lastly, please keep in mind that all views and opinions on member pages are the express views of their maintainers.

UPDATE (8 Nov 02): There is now a channel on OPN for the Zaurus WebRing, #zaurus-wr. This is a place where Zaurus WebRing members can converse. This is probably redundant, as there is already a #zaurus and #openzaurus, but I no longer frequent #zaurus and don't run OZ on my Zaurus so I don't frequent #openzaurus either. I can always be reached for direct communcation at #zaurus-wr. Expect an information bot to be there soon. It shall be taught all the Zaurus webpages and FAQs. It'll be used as a fact-gathering tool to enhance the Zaurus WebRing and Zaurus user knowledge, but without the quirkiness of #zaurus channel owners. Feel free to visit anytime. Just be aware that this is new to me and that the kinks and bugs will eventually lessen.
